A-PAD PH launches 3rd Regional Disaster Management Platform in Ormoc City

ORMOC CITY – Through the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Citizen’s Disaster Response Center (CDRC), the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) and co-convenors from the Asia-Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management (A-PAD) Philippines will launch the 3rd A-PAD Regional Platform based at Eastern Visayas in Ormoc City as a move toward strengthening the delivery of timely and effective disaster response mechanisms and better developing different cross-sector collaborations.
Prior the scheduled launch in Ormoc City, A-PAD PH had already established two (2) other regional platforms in Bicol and Central Visayas.
The current platform in Ormoc City will make for a fifty percent (50%) completion rate from A-PAD’s target completion of six (6) platforms. A-PAD is presently considering setting up the three (3) remaining platforms at Soccsksargen, Davao, and Ilocos.
Among the top supporters of the new A-PAD Regional Platform is the City Government of Ormoc under the capable leadership of Ormoc City Mayor, Hon. Richard Gomez.
Partner stakeholders from the academe, media, business sectors, civil society organizations will be in attendance during the launch.
Partners from the City Government of Ormoc which include representatives from the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), the Office of Civil Defence 8, the Ormoc City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., and the Rotary International – District 3860 Disaster Management Inc., will also be gracing the event.
Members from the corporate sectors will include businessmen, entrepreneurs, and traders. The corporate sector plays a crucial role when it comes to disaster response and preparedness as partners who can provide support in the form of resources and expertise in improving disaster response mechanisms.
The A-PAD Eastern Visayas Regional Platform official launch will take place at the Ormoc City Hall, Ormoc City, Leyte on the 16th of November 8:30 to 11:30 in the morning.
CDRRMO Chief Coloy Tolibao, Ormoc Chamber President Maricel Ngo, PDRF Executive Director Veronica Gabaldon, Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez, OCD 8 Regional Director Henry Anthony Torres, LCDE Chairperson, Nelson L. Quilario, and APAD Eastern Visayas Focal Person/Rotary District 3860 Disaster Management Committee Executive Director Troy Bumagat will lead the A-PAD launching ceremony.
The launching ceremony will include the terms of reference and covenant signing among the partners and stakeholders. Following the motorcade, A-PAD PH will also be having a press conference with members of the media at the Ormoc City Hall Session Hall. (A-PAD)
