A-PAD Philippines – Bicol, Luzon conducts its first Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Orientation and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) Workshop Macagang Business Center for Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) at Macagang Business Center, San Antonio Poblacion, Nabua, Camarines Sur on October 25-27, 2016.

On the first day, Mr. Gilbert Alberto, President of the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, gave emphasis on the importance of DRRM and BCP in the everyday lives of MSMEs.

“Kailangan pag handaan yung ayaw nating mangyari” he said. Giving emphasis on planning out specific stages of the business to save the entrepreneur from the adverse impacts of hazards. Also he mentioned that this is the first ever BCP – DRRM training for Bicol initiated by the A-PAD.

The Department of Trade and Industry Regional Head in Bicol acknowledged the A-PAD and its members for organizing and conducting this activity. She said that the training to develop BCP and enhance awareness on DRRM for MSMEs is very timely in present situation of Camarines Sur.

“Since the enactment of the RA10121 the DTI has been more concerned on how to ensure the effectiveness in responding to this mandate. That is monitoring the prices of basic and prime commodities in times of calamity,” she continued.

A-PAD Philippines Regional Coordinator for Bicol, Ms. Mari Cris Biñas, gave an overview of the 3-day program by giving a pre-evaluation workshop on the knowledge of the participants in BCP and DRRM. She also introduced A-PAD Philippines to the participants who are composed of MSMEs, cooperatives, and LGUs.

Engr. Joel Talay from Environment Disaster Management and Emergency Response Office (EDMERO) provided a Risk Assessment Status of Camarines Sur.

Mr. Adolfo Badiola, Program Head of Metro Naga Development Council (MNDC) shared the Plan of the Local Government on Business Resilience.

Dr. Yolanda Agawa, the Director of RCDRRM&CCA, Graduate School of Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, is the main resource speaker for the workshop. She gave a lecture on RA 10121, Introduction to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management and Climate Change Adaptation, Risk Assessment, Vulnerability and capacity assessment, Hazard Mapping, and Business Continuity Planning.
